Plastics, Problems & Permeability - In Building and the Construction Industries

Plastics are very widely used throughout the building and construction industries – but there is a big hidden problem.  Although plastics are excellent at keeping liquid water out – some are exceptionally poor as barriers to water vapour.  Some, such as those that include materials like silicone, cellulose, EVOH or PVOH can be so poor that they almost might as well not be there at all.

Considering that water vapour is the world's single most damaging contaminate, and has caused entire structures to collapse, the problem can be acute.  But Versaperm's equipment allows you to resolve your problems and testing and measuring the vapour permeability of just about any building or construction material, and most often complete built-up systems as well,

The equipment is easy to use and gives a series of measurements that can be recorded or simply read off a screen.  It needs no re-calibration and requires, at most, minimal training to give results that can be accurate to better than one part per million.

This allows you to determine which materials are right for your building, construction, project, product or application.

The Versaperm permeability meter can optionally control temperature and other environmental conditions.  This allows measurements to mimic both seasonal and diurnal cycles – covering everything from winter's sub-zero temperatures through to summer's blazingly hottest days – and beyond!

People need to use plastic as they are lightweight, strong, resistant to rot and corrosion and offer good resistance to weather.  Also they are cheap, can be easily bent, moulded, easily removed and some can be recycled.  But if they are not tested substantive problems may well arise.

As well as manufacturing the instruments, Versaperm offers both a laboratory testing service and a consultancy for companies that only need to test samples on an irregular basis.
